For Goodness’ Sake
If you haven’t heard about the initiative to increase the dump site off of Somonauk Road, please read this and consider supporting the cause to stop the expansion of the dump.
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT OF DEKALB COUNTY. THE DUMP IS ALREADY LARGE ENOUGH…. THE STENCH CAN BE EXPERIENCED FOR MILES! DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN SUCH A PLACE? CONSIDER THE EFFECT TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR HOME. SHOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE BY EXPRESSING YOUR OPINION.
Namaste, Jennifer
Dear Friends of DeKalb County,
Did you know that a Mega dump is getting voted on by the Pollution Control Board this Tuesday at 3:30 at 200 North Main in Sycamore? They may vote to recommend that our garbage dump be expanded from 88 acres to 500 acres and accept garbage from 17 other counties including Cook.
Is this how we get rewarded for being one of the highest percentage recyclers (41%) in Illinois? Is this sneaky snow-job of a political process how we want business to be conducted in our community, behind our backs?
Show up at the vote this Tuesday and let them see the whites of your eyes glaring at them. It might just get them to think about the vote they are going to cast.
I was just at a town hall meeting in Cortland on Saturday and the townsfolk there are hopping mad that their Mayor signed a letter more or less agreeing that it was okay as far as Cortland was concerned. At least he had the guts to show up at the meeting and agree he would change his mind.
Waste Mgmnt is playing the system legally in ways that kept this quiet but we still have a chance to stop this nonsense. Show up at this meeting or call a County Board member and let them know what you think. The County Board votes on it May 10th. That is my birthday and I am not going to let them disgrace it. What in the world are our elected officials thinking? Use your imagination on what this would mean to our community. If you think you are far enough away for this not to affect you, just think about it again. Drive by the dump now and imagine if it were bigger. This is going to ruin peoples lives in our community. What can happen to others can happen to you if we let this kind of monkey-business go on unchallenged.
Please tell 5 or 10 other people about this and do what Waste Management is hoping would not happen; that we would care. We cared by recycling for over 30 years and we still care now. Honor our recent Earth Day by speaking up about this.
